This painting depicts the south end of Padilla Bay along Indian Slough, which is west from the small community of Bay View, Washington.
Artist Statement:
The estuary vistas of land west of the community of Bay View in northwestern Washington State are rich in texture, muted in hues, and filled with personal memories.
Discovering an old photograph of a late Fall visit there with a long time friend prompted a return to this unique area. As I explored, memories of my previous paintings surfaced along with new inspiration...and from my studio, a preliminary study evolved into this completed painting.

Artist Statement: During a late winter walk on the slough trail near Conway, Washington, a lifting low overcast started revealing an impressive sunset. The horizon of orange was a welcoming contrast to the estuary’s muted hues. – Thomas William Jones
